Research Assistant/Junior Researcher
I worked as a research assistant researching novel approaches to integrate heterogeneous data based on their semantics. The goal of my research was to create solutions to help computers understand the semantics hidden within documents and resources and materialize the implicit knowledge that scientists have acquired from their experience in order to help them run experiments and automatically identify sources that can help them address a problem.
As part of my research, I built a solution based on Answer Sets and Logic programming (DLV^K) to create virtual spaces of resources (images, documents, databases) that automatically evolved with respect to changes to the dataspace (creation, deletion, or update of resources) and the scientists challenges.
I also designed a system infrastructure to create a Virtual Laboratory of Biomedicine (BioVLab). This solution built a Knowledge Graph from a set of public OWL ontologies in bio-informatics and uses an Inference Engine to answer biologists’ questions based on the semantics of their queries instead of only keywords.
